💨 Abstract

Heavy flooding in central and southern China has resulted in at least nine deaths and displaced tens of thousands. Provinces of Henan, Hubei, and Guizhou were severely affected, with rivers overflowing and inundating urban areas. The floods were exacerbated by rapid urban development. Authorities have been cautious in reporting the extent of the damage, especially following the 2001 Zhengzhou flood, which sparked public outrage.
