💨 Abstract

The Inter-American Court of Human Rights, on Thursday, emphasized the legal obligation of governments to act against climate change, linking it to protecting human rights. The court, in response to Colombia and Chile, asserted that states must prevent, mitigate, and remedy environmental harm, recognizing a human right to a healthy climate. The landmark ruling, although non-binding, is anticipated to shape climate-related lawsuits and policies across Latin America and the Caribbean, influencing global climate negotiations.
