💨 Abstract

In Taiwan, a historic recall election is underway, potentially affecting the power dynamics in the legislature. Voters are deciding whether to remove 24 opposition Nationalist Party (KMT) lawmakers. Those supporting the recall argue that the KMT has obstructed key legislation and weakened the executive branch. The KMT, however, accuses the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of political retaliation. Both China and Taiwan’s mainland affairs council have weighed in on the elections.
