💨 Abstract

former U.S. President Donald Trump's attempt to help his ally, Brazil's ex-President Jair Bolsonaro, through tariffs backfired. Instead, it bolstered the political standing of Brazil's current President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Trump's threats of a 50% import tax increased Lula's approval ratings and united Brazil against what is seen as U.S. interference.
