💨 Abstract
Stella Rimington, the first female head of Britain's MI5 and later a noted thriller writer, has passed away at 90. Her tenure as MI5 director-general from 1992 to 1996 marked a period of increased openness for the secretive agency. She served as an inspiration for Judi Dench’s portrayal of M in the James Bond films. Rimington also wrote memoirs and spy novels.
