On July 2024, U.S. President Donald Trump signed a memorandum tightening U.S. policy towards Cuba, restricting certain financial and travel transactions. The move aims to end economic practices that disproportionately benefit the Cuban government and military at the expense of the Cuban people. It prohibits financial transactions with entities controlled by the Cuban military, such as Grupo de Administración Empresarial SA (GAESA), and enforces the ban on U.S.
