💨 Abstract

In a Seattle immigration court, volunteers aided a Colombian man facing deportation as ICE agents waited to take him into custody. They helped him organize his belongings and contact family. This incident highlights the tense atmosphere in immigration courts due to recent government policies which rely on rapid deportation after judges dismiss cases. Volunteers—including religious leaders, students, and retirees—accompany and support immigrants facing potential arrest. They also document ICE activities, despite the risk of arrest for interference.
