đ¨ Abstract
A rare tropical disease called melioidosis has killed at least 31 people in Queensland, with 221 cases reported this year, a significant increase from last year. The disease, spread through heavy rain and flooding, can enter the body through cuts, contaminated water, or even inhalation. It primarily affects regions like Torres and Cape, North West, Cairns and Hinterland, and Townsville. Symptoms mimic common infections, and treatment requires strong antibiotics for at least three months.
