💨 Abstract
The NHS is introducing DIY cervical screening kits to increase participation, as nearly a third of eligible women in England miss their smear tests due to embarrassment, pain fears, and inconvenience. These kits detect Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a primary cause of cervical cancer, and are similarly accurate to clinic-based tests. They are easier and more comfortable for some women. The NHS will offer these kits from January 2026 to women who rarely or never attend screening.
