DJ Carey, a renowned hurling legend, pleaded guilty to falsely claiming he had cancer to extract money from people, including billionaire Denis O’Brien, between 2014 and 2022. He was charged with 10 counts of defrauding, though he does have genuine health issues. Previously, Carey settled a debt with Allied Irish Bank and had spoken publicly about repaying debts. His sentencing is set for October 29.
