💨 Abstract
Before 2015, the author, then 17, had no idea about type 1 diabetes. One day, unexplainable symptoms led to a hospital admission where she learned her body was not producing insulin. She now relies on an insulin pump and faced self-consciousness, particularly about her appearance. The introduction of a diabetic Barbie sparked hope for education and acceptance, featuring realistic diabetes tech.
