💨 Abstract

Scientists detected the largest black hole merger ever recorded, named GW231123, which occurred between two and 13 billion light-years away. The merging black holes, with masses roughly 140 and 100 times that of the Sun, fused to form a massive black hole 225 times the Sun's mass. Detected by LIGO, this event challenges existing theories about black hole formation, particularly concerning their spin and size.
