💨 Abstract
London is increasing the use of facial recognition cameras, despite privacy concerns. The Metropolitan Police will deploy these cameras 10 times a week across five days, more than doubling the current usage. Residents in Croydon, a violence hotspot, support the move, hoping it will reduce crime. However, campaigners like Big Brother Watch caution that the lack of regulation poses risks, noting past misidentifications and the potential for a surveillance state.
