Millions of smart meters in Great Britain are malfunctioning, operating in ‘dumb’ mode and unable to send energy usage information. The government is launching a consultation to improve meter operation and introduce a Consumer Charter. Ofgem will require energy companies to fix broken devices and offer £40 compensation for repairs taking over 90 days.
