💨 Abstract
On March 31, 1990, Londoners protested Margaret Thatcher’s poll tax, leading to widespread arrests. Recently, another large protest saw 522 arrests, mainly for holding Palestine Action (PA) placards. PA is now considered a terrorist group by the British government. Jessie Blackbourn noted PA’s proscription largely due to property damage, not serious violence. Critics argue UK terrorism laws are overly broad, potentially infringing on free expression.
