💨 Abstract
Ricky Jones, a 58-year-old Labour councillor, was acquitted of encouraging violent disorder after suggesting that the throats of far-right protesters be cut. Jones made these comments during a counter-protest in Walthamstow last year, following the Southport murders and rioting. He claimed his remarks were directed at individuals who reportedly glued dangerous stickers on a train, rather than protesting in general. The jury reached a verdict of not guilty after a half-hour deliberation.
