Sally and Tim Metcalfe foster sisters Shanice and Joanie Michaelis, who had a turbulent upbringing with their violent parents, Mick and Lou. Despite Sally and Tim's efforts to create a stable environment, the girls' behavior becomes challenging. Brody, the eldest sibling, tries to keep the family together, even covering up hidings Shanice, which Sally and Tim discover. Social services and a psychologist visit and decide the sisters can stay with the Metcalfes.
