💨 Abstract
Rockstar’s former lead writer, Dan Houser, revealed that *GTA 4*’s protagonist, Niko Bellic, nearly died at the game’s end, but the mechanics wouldn’t allow it. Houser had wanted to kill Niko, similar to *Red Dead Redemption*’s John Marston, but the game’s structure made it impractical. He also explained that *GTA* is deeply tied to American themes, making non-US settings difficult.
