💨 Abstract
After death, the body cools and begins to decompose due to the absence of blood flow and the activity of bacteria. Rigor mortis, a temporary stiffening of muscles, occurs a few hours after death and lasts about 48 hours. Embalming, a process involving formaldehyde, slows decomposition and preserves the body's appearance for viewing.
