💨 Abstract

Mark Brooks, a 53-year-old fitness enthusiast, contracted necrotizing fasciitis, a severe bacterial infection, after an intense workout while ill. The infection rapidly deteriorated his arm, leading to multi-organ failure. He underwent 25 surgeries over nine weeks, including skin grafts and muscle reconstruction, to save his arm. The treatment cost nearly £450,000 and left him with PTSD.
