💨 Abstract

An outbreak of invasive meningitis at the University of Kent has resulted in two student deaths and 11 serious illnesses. The UK Health Security Agency is contacting over 30,000 individuals to inform them of the situation. Meningitis, an infection of the brain and spinal cord membranes, can be fatal if untreated. Symptoms include high fever, vomiting, and severe headaches. The specific strain is unknown, but antibiotics are being administered as a precaution.
