💨 Abstract
The conflict in the Middle East is expected to increase food prices in the UK within weeks, according to the National Farmers’ Union (NFU). The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran is already affecting fuel and fertilizer costs, which could raise prices for tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, milk, and meat. The NFU warns that a prolonged conflict could severely disrupt global supply chains. Retailers are working to mitigate costs, but some increases may be passed on to consumers.
