The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approved the procurement of 31 Predator long-endurance drones from the US at a cost of around USD 3.1 billion and indigenous construction of two nuclear-powered conventional submarines at around Rs 40,000 crore. The drones are being acquired primarily for enhanced military surveillance along the Chinese border, especially for the Indian Air Force and Army.
