💨 Abstract
In Marathwada, central Maharashtra, lightning strike deaths increased from 48 in 2023 to 76 in 2024, despite no new bolt arrester devices being installed. These devices, which protect by grounding lightning surges, were ordered by the then chief minister for each district, but none were procured. Most districts have fewer than 10 devices, and some are non-functional.
