💨 Abstract
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed all Indian states and Union Territories to immediately implement the Supreme Court's 2023 directives aimed at eradicating manual scavenging and hazardous sewer cleaning. Despite legal bans and constitutional protections, these practices continue in some areas, violating human rights. The NHRC has called for robust monitoring systems, wide dissemination of judicial directives, sensitization programs, and regular reviews to ensure compliance and accountability.
