💨 Abstract
Tech companies like Microsoft, Alphabet, Meta, Amazon, and others have proposed an alternative framework for power payment for data centers in Ohio. The proposal comes in response to a May initiative by utility AEP Ohio, which required pre-payments and financial assurances from data centers and cryptocurrency miners for their energy needs. The tech firms are seeking to broaden the application of AEP’s rules and change circumstances for big power customers to pay for upgrades.
