Lee has stated that the company is not interested in spinning off its contract chip manufacturing business and logic chip designing operation, despite these businesses incurring billions of dollars in annual losses due to weak demand. Samsung has been investing heavily in these areas to reduce reliance on memory chips, but has struggled to secure large orders from customers to fill new capacity.
