💨 Abstract
Italy has expanded its digital service tax to include small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to address U.S. complaints of discrimination. This move aims to avoid retaliation, with other EU countries likely to follow suit. The tax targets U.S. tech companies, such as Meta, Google, and Amazon, and was initially imposed on digital firms with annual sales of at least €750 million, if at least €5.5 million was made in Italy.
