💨 Abstract

In Manila, hundreds of thousands of Filipino Catholics participated in the annual procession of the Black Nazarene, a 17th-century statue of Jesus Christ. Devotees, believing in the statue's healing powers, jostled to touch it or pull its carriage. The event also served as a platform for Church leaders to criticize corrupt officials, referencing a recent graft scandal. Bishop Rufino Sescon urged officials to step down for the sake of mercy and love, without naming specific politicians.
