💨 Abstract
Ecuador has announced a nine-hour power blackout in 12 provinces on Sunday due to a severe drought affecting hydroelectric plants. The blackout is in addition to the government's plans for eight-hour nightly power cuts from Monday to Thursday. The measures are aimed at preserving water resources amid the worst drought in 61 years and an energy crisis due to lack of dam maintenance and new energy generation contracts.
