Hurricane Helene brought record-breaking rainfall to North Carolina, causing the death of a man named George Dixon, whose body was found downstream from his home. His family, including his wife and two teenage sons, survived by clinging to a guitar case and a dresser in their flooded home for several hours before being rescued. The storm left dozens dead and caused extensive damage in the area.
