💨 Abstract
At the COP29 summit, psychiatrists are highlighting the link between higher temperatures and increased suicidal thoughts and behaviors among young people, based on a recent study in Australia. The study found that for every 1°C rise in average daily temperature, emergency department visits by young people for suicidal thoughts and behavior increased by 1.3%. This relationship was strong and predictable, with each hot day posing risks similar to those of a heatwave.
