💨 Abstract
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin maintains that he should have the authority to decide the fate of plea deals for Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks, and two accomplices held at Guantanamo Bay. A U.S. military judge recently ruled that Austin had acted too late to revoke the deals, but Austin did not comment on whether he would appeal the decision.
