đ¨ Abstract
Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Jimmy Lai testified in his national security trial, denying asking the U.S. to impose sanctions on China or Hong Kong. He admitted seeking unofficial channels with U.S. officials and former Taiwan president Tsai Ing-wen for mutual understanding. Lai, founder of the now-shuttered Apple Daily, faces charges of colluding with foreign forces and publishing seditious material.
