💨 Abstract
Greek transport workers, hospital doctors, school teachers, and construction workers went on strike on Wednesday, disrupting services, in protest of squeezed living standards and demands for higher pay. Greeks' wages and pensions were reduced during the 2009-2018 debt crisis, which shrunk Greece's economic output by a quarter. The Greek economy has since recovered, but wages still trail the European average and are insufficient to cover rising energy, food, and housing costs.
