💨 Abstract

In 2024, Swiss glaciers experienced above-average melt due to a hot summer following abundant snowfall. The Alpine glaciers lost 2.5% of their volume, with August temperatures a few degrees above freezing even at high altitudes. Dust from the Sahara and rising temperatures due to climate change are accelerating the melting.
