đź’¨ Abstract
On December 18, 2025, coordinated mobs attacked Bangladesh's leading newspapers, The Daily Star and Prothom Alo, marking a rare instance of violence against the press. The Daily Star's headquarters were set on fire, trapping staff who had to flee to the roof. Prothom Alo's printing operations were suspended but resumed the next day. Both newspapers defiantly published their editions, emphasizing the attack's broader implications for press freedom and democracy.
