💨 Abstract
The world's first commercial-scale e-methanol plant began operating in Denmark, producing 42,000 metric tons of e-methanol annually using renewable energy. Shipping giant Maersk will use it to reduce emissions, aiming for price parity with fossil methanol by 2035. The plant is a joint venture by Denmark’s European Energy and Japan’s Mitsui, with plans to expand globally. Additional benefits include supplying e-methanol for plastic production and heating local households.
