In 2025, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) has implemented a virtual waiting room for the manual tax filing season to handle high traffic, prevent system overloads, and minimize disruptions. Since high demand crashes its systems, with millions expected to file online, SARS aims to ensure stability by asking users to wait in a virtual queue, especially during scheduled upgrades. Tax season started on 7 July 2025, and manual filing begins on 21 July.
