South African medical schemes are facing significant challenges in 2026, with most schemes increasing contributions by less than 10%. Momentum Health leads with a 9.9% increase, while Discovery Health has the lowest at 5.4%. Sizwe Hosmed, under curatorship, imposed a 19.15% hike to stabilize finances. Factors driving these increases include inflation, an aging membership, and higher healthcare utilization.
