The South African Revenue Service (SARS) issued auto-assessments to 5.8 million taxpayers, a significant increase from the previous year, resulting in R10.6 billion in refunds paid within 72 hours. Auto assessments, a key part of SARS's digital transformation, pre-fill tax returns using third-party data, reducing the need for in-person visits.
