Doja Cat has spoken about her difficult childhood, raised by her single mother, Deborah Elizabeth Sawyer, with no support from her South African father, actor Dumisani Dlamini. She called him a "deadbeat" who "abandoned" the family, though Dlamini claims he tried to reach out but was blocked by her management. Doja, who has never met her father, praised her mother as her biggest supporter.
