💨 Abstract

Buffel, a well-known southern elephant seal in Cape Town, was recently spotted at Duiker Island looking healthy and plump. This sighting is encouraging after previous concerns about his condition during his annual moult at Cape Point. Buffel, estimated to be around 13 years old, has become a local celebrity and his good health is a positive sign for his followers. Southern elephant seals typically live up to 14-15 years, making Buffel an older animal.
