💨 Abstract
The South African Department of Home Affairs plans to phase out the old 'green mamba' SA ID booklet by 2026, replacing it with digital identifiers and smart ID cards. The move aims to enhance security and reduce identity theft. The department is working on a 'Home Affairs @ home' strategy to go paperless by 2030, with support from banks and a digital public services platform called MyMzansi.
