💨 Abstract
A proposed SASSA grant for pregnant women, aimed at addressing malnutrition and poor birth outcomes, has been stalled for over a decade due to bureaucratic and financial concerns. Known as the Maternal Support Grant (MSG), it targets the issue of stunted growth in South African children, with nearly one-third affected. The grant could cost between R1.9 billion and R3.2 billion annually, but advocates argue the health savings would exceed R13 billion.
