💨 Abstract
South Africa's summer beach season has begun tragically with seven fatalities reported by the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI). The NSRI warns of increased drownings due to distractions like cellphones and alcohol. They urge vigilance, avoiding alcohol near water, and swimming only at lifeguarded beaches within designated flags. The NSRI has responded to 13 drownings, saving 25 lives, including five using Pink Rescue Buoys.
