đź’¨ Abstract

South African pensioners are facing a quiet crisis with the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). Despite SASSA's portrayal as a lifeline, pensioners report empty accounts, supermarket humiliation, and missing payments. Benita Swart described pensioners struggling to afford basic groceries, while Dudley Wright noted price hikes on SASSA days. Many pensioners also reported missing payments entirely, with some alleging theft by officials.
