💨 Abstract
Activist Zackie Achmat criticized Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis's plan to build a R114 million wall along the N2 highway to combat crime. Achmat argued that the wall, dubbed the "Israel Apartheid wall," would not address the root causes of crime in impoverished communities like Khayelitsha and Gugulethu. He suggested that improving safety in informal settlements and addressing inequality would be more effective.
