The Department of Transport in South Africa has announced that the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offenses (AARTO) Act, including a national demerit point system for drivers, will be fully implemented by September 1, 2026. The rollout will occur in three phases, covering new regulations for traffic fines, notices, appeals, and penalties. Each offense will carry a specific number of points, with excessive points potentially leading to license suspension or cancellation.
