💨 Abstract

The South African government is considering a new licence renewal levy to fund the Road Accident Fund (RAF), as more drivers switch to electric vehicles, which do not contribute to the current fuel levy. Minister of Transport Barbara Creecy is researching ways to expand the RAF levy to ensure all motorists contribute, regardless of vehicle type. This includes potential levies on vehicle registrations and licence disc renewals.
